From the moment we started to approach Chiang Mai, I knew this place was going to be special. The Airbus A320 descended through thick cloud to reveal undulating mountains, covered in lush green forest, literally stretching as far as the eye could see. Chiang Mai is easily accessible from most major airports in Thailand, there is also a railway that runs through the city and you can catch a train from Bangkok for example. Chiang Mai is one of the oldest cities in Thailand, with recorded history since at least the 1200s. This means there is an abundance of temples, historical monuments and activities to fill your time in mountainous Northern Thailand.
