In the first of a weekly challenge, here at Mango HQ we are looking at finding the best Sunday Lunch in Bangkok, not the cheapest or biggest we want the best. Regardless of New Years resolutions or friends calling me Fat Mango this is the challenge to see who is top dog in Sunday Lunches so my weight can take a back seat for the moment.

Let Battle commence

First up is Scruffy Murphy’s on Soi 23 and the location is great, this Irish Sports Bar is within a short walking distance from Soi Cowboy, this bar stands out when walking onto Soi 23 at the back end of Cowboy standing alone with its red paint scheme from top to toe, upon entering the bar myself and mini mango were greeted by smiles and welcomes and offered a table ( the bar was quiet as I had wanted to miss the midday rush, so Sunday Lunch was 11.30 ).

The bar itself has a great ambiance, warm and cosy with very friendly staff, the Sunday lunch menu’s were on all of the tables and that was what I had come for, so order was quickly made with mini mango going for the pork and I plucked for the chicken, and with a rumbling stomach I was looking forward to getting stuck in.

Two plates of food arrived and let me say they were both a fair size, and I think to myself “mini-me is never going to finish that ” so fat boy here is in for some extra helpings here, the chicken and the pork were cooked to perfection and the gravy was amazing, just the right thickness yet the taste reminded me of home from home. Both lunches were served with mashed potato and roast potatoes with broccoli, carrots and peas and last but not least the old favorites two Yorkshire puddings, an added bonus was the portion of cauliflower cheese on the side…delicious.

I finished mine and mini mango did better than I thought but left an extra Yorkshire pudding for me.

All in all a top-notch Sunday Lunch that will be hard to beat, at 320 baht each Scruffy Murphy’s offers great value for money within a bar that for me is one of the best in Bangkok, and will be difficult to beat in the sweet3mango Battle Of The Sunday Lunches challenge, it gets a sweet3 thumbs up and I would recommend anyone that wants a Sunday Lunch or some good old fashioned pub grub to try these guys….you won’t be disappointed, also watch out also for live music daily from 4 pm.
